It is interesting to see how popular culture has evolved hand in hand with media and technology in general. Print, radio, movies, television… up to nowadays mass media communication systems, including the internet have all brought new ideas and new dimensions to popular culture.
The idea that it has derived from an attempt to democratize “high culture” is rather appealing to me. Bringing the ‘sacred’ arts to a proletarian level.
It seems to me like it would be healthier to educate people to understand this “high culture” rather than vulgarizing it.
I wonder how Tchaikovsky would feel about a mouse magician dancing to his compositions.
